Perimeter and Area

Being that New Yorkers are able to experience all four seasons and has very diverse landscapes, there are many opportunities for them to stay fit.  Along the coast is the Atlantic Ocean, which offers great waves for surfing and jet skiing.  In addition, calmer bodies of water, such as lakes and rivers, allow for kayaking and rowing during the summertime.  The spring and fall are the perfect seasons to go for a hike in one of the state’s many mountain ranges because it is not too hot that hikers would get dehydrated quickly, and not too cold that they would get frostbite.  One outdoor activity that would be a enjoyable in the winter would be ice skating.  Ice skating rinks can be made when the lakes freeze or can be man-made.  The Rink at Rockefeller Center in New York City is one of the most popular man-made ice skating rinks that attracts hundreds of people during the holiday season.

  1. I neber thought about the perimeter of the ice rink before. You see math in everything! That is very helpful to students who sometimes don't see the connection between math and the real world.
